Marvel Superheroes: The 10 Most Unintentionally Hilarious Costume Changes

Marvel Superheroes: The 10 Most Unintentionally Hilarious Costume Changes
For decades Marvel comics have been capturing the love and imagination of readers with outrageous stories and incredible artwork. Each beloved hero has evolved and changed over the years as new writers and artists come on board to add to the beautiful history of Marvel heroes. With each new team of creators, a character gets a new look that matches the ideas that the creative team brings to the story.

Even with the best intentions, sometimes the costume changes can be hilarious. Whether it is Hawkeye wearing a mini skirt or Spiderman having metal octopus arms, these are the 10 most unintentionally hilarious costume changes across Marvel's history.

10. 1990S SUE STORM

The Fantastic Four are the oldest characters in Marvel's sprawling history. Over the decades, the four iconic characters have changed their look quite a few times. Generally, the team wears matching jumpsuits with the classic emblem on the front.
In the '90s, the team went through some dramatic costume changes that were far more hilarious then they were intended to be. Eventually, the whole team got a dramatic change in the 1990s, but the hilarious changes began when Sue Storm unveiled her new revealing costume. The new costume had far less material than before, showing off a comical amount of skin compared to her previous attire.

9. ANGEL PUNISHER

The Punisher has been one of the most intimidating heroes in Marvel comics. Dressed in all black with the skull on his chest, this daring hero does not hold back against his enemies. After years of striking fear into the hearts of his enemies, The Punisher took an odd turn that was much funnier than the creative team meant for it to be.
After some unfortunate events, the lethal hero wound up dead, although he comes back with new spectral weapons that allow him to kill demons too. Dressed in black with glowing eyes and new bright glowing weapons, the Punisher hunts down new spectral bad guys in hilarious fashion.

8. IRON MAN'S NOSE

With the huge success of the Marvel cinematic universe, Tony Stark has become one of the most popular and beloved heroes in all of comics. Back in the early years of the hero, Iron Man went through more than a few different looks with each new writer and artist.
One of the more hilarious iterations of the armor came when the creative team decided to add a nose to the suit. It was meant to make Iron Man look more human and be more expressive, but the result just made him look hilarious. A nose on a metal mask is completely pointless, and it was a very odd addition to the character that was taken away when readers reacted to the hero's uncanny look.

7. PUNK STORM

The X-Men have greatly expanded the Marvel universe, adding hundreds of loveable heroes and intimidating villains. Storm is one of the best heroes on the team, often taking a leading role and mentoring younger mutants along the way. Her classic white hair and flowing cape have been apart of her character.
In the 1980s, Storm took a dramatic change in style. Dressing in a lot more leather and sporting a stylish white mohawk, Storm took on a punk rock look that ultimately was much more hilarious than originally intended. Even though the new design didn't look terrible, it just was not the right fit for the character and was a funny dramatic change to one of the most popular mutants.

6.DARK CLAW

Back in the late '90s, Marvel and DC attempted to share their universes by merging several popular characters into one. The experiment failed rather quickly for various reasons, but as a result, both Marvel and DC fans got some rather hilarious adaptations of their favorite characters.
Wolverine is without a doubt one of the best characters in all of comics, and when he merged with another favorite superhero, Batman, the result was not what it was intended to be. Switching from his iconic yellow and blue look to a weird darker and caped version, Wolverine and Batman switching to Dark Claw was an unintentionally hilarious version of the two beloved characters.

5.HAWKEYE

Let's be honest, Hawkeye has had multiple unintentionally hilarious looks over the years. The hero has been one of the key members of the Avengers for many years and has had plenty of memorable moments in Marvel's history.
One of the more hilarious changes made to the character happened during the 1970s, as Hawkeye started sporting a stylish miniskirt while fighting the bad guys. The purple skirt was not intended to be as hilarious as it turned out, but it was just a surprising change in wardrobe from his previous crime-fighting attire. There was something truly funny about seeing Hawkeye leaping into action with his skirt flowing in the wind.

 4.'WARRIOR'THOR

Thor has brought plenty of unforgettable moments to Marvel comics. Whether he is traveling to different realms or teaming up with the Avengers to defend the earth, the worthy hero is sure to make an impression on any story he is a part of. Like any other hero in Marvel comics, Thor has gone through plenty of costume changes over the decades.
One of the more memorable alterations was when Thor grew his hair even longer than usual, wore a shirt that was cut off to show his abs, and chained his hammer to his belt. The look was meant to be intimidating, but in reality, it was a funny costume change from his previous iconic look.

3.GOOD GUY MAGNETO

In Marvel comics, there are few villains that are as memorable and loved as Magneto. The iconic villain has definitely fallen into the grey area for heroes and villains. While Magneto definitely has done some unforgivable deeds, he was popular enough that at times he has drifted to the good side to join the heroes. One of the times that he switched sides he got a brand new look to signify his new role as a hero.
Magneto's new look was meant to be similar to the other heroes he was joining sides with, but the result was actually quite funny. Dressed in a full purple suit with a cape and a giant M on his chest, Magneto's new heroic outfit was definitely one of the more unintentionally funny costume changes.

2.NOMAD

Captain America has become an essential member of both the Marvel comics and the cinematic universe. The captain is known for his heroic deeds and also his classic look. Dressed in the iconic red white and blue with the shield in hand, Captain America has become one of the most popular characters in all of comics.
There was a period of time where Cap felt quite disillusioned by his country and dropped the title of Captain America altogether. This giant change came along with an entirely new look and the new title of Nomad. Cap's new outfit was similar to other costumes in Marvel comics and ultimately was just a funny-looking masked hero.

1.SPIDERMAN 2211

In all of Marvel's history, Spiderman may have the most distinctly different suits. With hundreds of different looks, it is no surprise that the web-slinger would have a place on the list of funniest costume changes. While many of the spider suits are iconic and cool looking, there are plenty of examples of costume designs that just did not match the intentions of the creative team.
Spiderman 2211 is an excellent example of a suit that was way funnier than it was meant to be. Following the awesome looking 2099 suit, the 2211 suit is a futuristic version of Spiderman that has awkward-looking metal arms connected to him. The suit barely resembles the classic look and is one of the most unintentionally hilarious suits in comics history.
